EPIPREMNUM & SCINDAPSUS

SCINDAPSUS & EPIPREMNUM
Here are all stages of creating this illustration.
1. I started with gouache paintings of my favorite epipremnum and scindapsus leaves. These were one of my first plant paintings. 2020
2. Only 3 months passed by and I already wanted to change them. My tecnique was evolving very quickly at that time and i started painting with watercolors instead of gouache. This was my second take on pothos illustrations.
3. Then I decided to compile them all into one illustration. I wanted this to look like an old botanical book so I added scientific names at the bottom and numbered the leaves.
4. Within 2 years my love for plants evolved just like my painting skill and I started  to understand that I have only fraction of all *known* epipremnum and scindapsus plants depicted. Next step I made an illustration of few more scinapsus species such as 'Silver Lady', 'Jade Satin' and lucens (I will elaborate on this topic further). And I made a separate illustration only with Scindapsus Species. 2021
5. One day I saw shingling scindapsus on Insta and decided that I definitely lacking such plant in my epipremnum and scindapsus ID chart.
This is a Scindapsus Silver Snake (snake scale). I really enjoyed painting moss!
6. I added all pre-existing leaves in one illustration and called it POTHOS because I thought that it would be appropriate since this is how all of those plants are called among the people.
Future Work

Nowadays I am in the middle of painting few more epipremnum leaves so (1) I will need to add those to a final chart. (2) When I will be updating the chart I want to change the name of the whole illustration. Despite 'pothos' is a widespread word that people use when describing epipremnums and scindapsus leaves, its not a scientifically correct one. Moreover there is a whole another plant family called 'pothos' that is not related to epipremnums and scindapsus. Thus my current naming strategy can be misleading. (3) The last issue: 'scindapsus lucens' leaf that I painted is actually an Anadendrum aff. leaf, it is commonly called Scindapsus Lucens. I will need to do something about this leaf in my next update.

Thank you for reading this, I hope you found this interesting!
